Alongside with members of the EXPRESS, Dr. Dewi Vliexs SEEA EU Project Officer, visited the CER Vallesina.org, the JESI Energy Community and The Leaf Community Loccioni. These are innovative projects that are providing clean energy to thousands of people and local businesses at region of Marche in Italy.
The CER Vallesina.org is the first Renewable Energy Community in the Province of Ancona. The project serves individuals and local businesses. They are using the solar PV to support the farm’s production in region and the natural solar refraction system increases modules efficiency.
The JESI Energy Community, which was formed by group of local associations and social cooperatives in partnership with the local municipality of JESI. The main goal is to produce renewable energy, bringing together producers and consumers to networking the clean energy generated by this project, while it is already benefiting a total of 2000 individuals in the area.
The Leaf community “Loccioni- micro grid”, provides 100 % renewable generated electricity for the local community and local bussiness. The Loccioni microgrid is a great showcase example of a peer -to-peer power network, distributing energy between Loccioni buildings within a 2 km radius. Over 90% of the energy produced is self-consumed, increasing self-sufficiency to 55%.
”Overall, community-driven innovation transforms renewable energy into real social impact, empowering people, supporting local economies, and building resilience”. Dr. Dewi Vliexs
Speaking at the The future of Energy at KEY – The Energy Transition Expo, Dr. Dewi Vliexs addressed the challenges in Ireland and shared the successful pilot project at the Ballymacarbry Energy Community.
The pilot is managed by the community housing body, BEHAL, with onsite deployment of solar PV panels at a nearby community building; the elderly residents benefit from clean energy to reduce their energy bills. Dr. Dewi said: ‘’In Ireland, 19.6% of the population faces energy poverty, with elderly citizens most impacted. The Ballymacarbry Energy Community showcases how local collaboration, SEC mentorship, and solar PV installations can drive a just, inclusive transition, reducing energy poverty and empowering vulnerable households.’’
Empowering communities through sustainable energy solutions and fostering inclusivity, resilience, and a just energy transition for all.
