In January and March of this year, we hosted an open house and welcomed the public to view the Housing 4.0 Energy Irish Pilots. These days were attended by the local authority staff and various contractors that had worked on the sites. The contractors were available to discuss the technologies that were used to bring the houses to Passive House standard.

Some of the contractors that worked on the houses are:

  • The Timber Frame Company(Timber frame for Mullinavat only)
  • Amvic(Insulation for Graiguenamanagh and Carlow)
  • Nilan(Heat Pump Providers and Installers for Kilkenny Pilots)
  • Energy Serv Ireland (PV Panel Providers and Installers for Mullinavat)
  • G L Electrical (PV Panel Providers and Installers for Graiguenamanagh)
  • Joule (Heat Pump Providers and Installers for Carlow Pilot)

The Hosuing 4.0 Energy Irish Pilots have now been handed to the Local Authorities to be used as social housing for individuals on the housing waiting list. The energy performance of the pilots will be measured by TU Delft to gain data to prove the H4.0E-construction concept.

These events were hosted as part of a greater effort to invite members of the public to view the housing 4.0 Energy pilots across the partner region. It’s unfortunately too late to visit these pilots’ open days now. However, you can learn more about them below.

If you would like to learn more about the pilots, including some of the story behind them and more technical information behind their construction type and technologies present, then keep an eye out for our Housing 4.0 Energy Guidebook. This Guidebook records the entire H4.0E project, from its background and inception to advice on how anyone – from self-builders to large developers – can replicate the H4.0E construction ethos. Announcement of this release will be made on our Social Media, Newsletter, and H4.0E page.
