South East Energy Agency are supporting Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford & Waterford County Councils Climate Action Plans by completing Baseline Emission Inventory reports for each of the four council areas. A Baseline Emissions Inventory, is a comprehensive assessment of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from various sources within a specific geographical area or entity. It serves as a starting point or reference point for measuring progress in reducing emissions and developing effective climate action plans.
These reports cover the carbon emissions generated from all sectors of society, including housing, transport, agriculture and others. The reports also identify the carbon stores in each area, for example the more forested areas in a region the greater the carbon stored in its biomass.
The infographic above for Carlow shows an overview of the carbon emissions from the sectors in the county, in addition to the energy used within each sector.
The four Local Authorities in the southeast have full accountability and obligations to reduce their own GHG emissions by 51% by 2030, and can influence, co-ordinate, facilitate and advocate for all other sectors to reduce their own GHG emissions by the same 51% by 2030. South East Energy Agency will continue to support our Local Authorities in achieving our regional and national climate goals.
