On Wednesday, 9th April, the South East Energy Agency hosted its Local Authority CPD and Annual Report Launch event at the Brandon House Hotel in New Ross, County Wexford. The morning brought together representatives from Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, and Waterford Local Authorities to share insights, review progress, and collaborate on upcoming regional climate and energy goals.

Opening the event, South East Energy Agency Chairman John Carley welcomed attendees and set the tone for a morning focused on ambition, action, and partnership. Senior Engineer Alex Hamilton followed with a summary of the Agency’s 2024 Annual Report, highlighting achievements to date and outlining key regional climate action planning targets for 2030.
A series of expert-led presentations and interactive sessions offered updates across a wide range of topics. Geoffrey Deane, Public Sector Lead Engineer, explored the evolving obligations and support structures for public bodies. Dr. Dewi Vliexs shared the Agency’s strategic approach to EU-funded projects and how they align with regional priorities.
Energy Engineer Onyedikachi Onwusor spoke about the importance of partnerships and the integration of Local Authority Climate Action Plans (LACAPs), reinforcing the role of collaboration in supporting communities across the southeast.
Colm O’Mahony provided updates on retrofitting initiatives and the role of One-Stop Shops, while Michael Kinchella discussed audits, grants, and supports available for non-domestic energy upgrades. The event closed with Communications Officer Michael Deen introducing the Community Energy Hub — an initiative designed to engage, inform, and empower citizens in their own energy journeys.
The event offered a valuable platform for learning and networking among Local Authority staff, reinforcing the importance of a joined-up regional approach to climate and energy planning.
