Scaling Up the Energy Poverty Approach (SCEPA), an Interreg North-West Europe Project, co-funded by the European Union, embarked on a one-week campaign on energy poverty in the South-East region of Ireland.

The campaign held at Loughboy Library Kilkenny, Waterford Central Library, Wexford Town Library and Carlow Central Library, in collaboration with the Community Energy Hub Event which witnessed the launch of the energy hub platform.

The SCEPA Project Officer, Stephen Oba, spoke on ‘Alleviating Energy Poverty for Vulnerable Households’. He shared the drivers of energy poverty in Ireland and key indicators, population at risk, key findings in Irish households, and the different domains of interventions.

In his presentation, he revealed that fuel-poor households will be identified in the course of delivering the project and that assistance will be provided in the generation of renewable energy (Solar PV). Mr. Oba stated that the vulnerable families will be assisted to establish Community Co-Op for management and maintenance of Solar PV in addition to the establishment of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for financial and administrative support.

‘By tackling energy poverty today, we can create a future where no household in Ireland has to suffer the cold or the fear of an unaffordable energy bill’.
