Wexford County Council approached South East Energy Agency looking to reduce their carbon emissions from the site to support the councils climate action targets. The Wexford Fire Services HQ building is heated predominantly by one oil boiler and one LPG CHP which are significant contributors to the buildings carbon footprint.

South East Energy Agency took an innovative approach to the decarbonisation of the Wexford Fire Services HQ. The site was identified as a suitable location to pilot the delivery of the RegEnergy biogas project, an EU funded programme aiming to create renewable energy demand–supply partnerships between urbanised and surrounding rural territories will lead to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Ormonde Upgrading are a bioenergy plant based in Portlaw, Co. Waterford, who partnered with South East Energy Agency on the Interreg RegEnergy project and will supply the biogas that will be used in the biogas boilers that South East Energy Agency installed as part of this project.

Benefits

Thanks to the installation of the biogas boiler system, Wexford County Council reduced its carbon footprint by 16 tonnes of co2 per year, through the BEC 2022 Programme.
