World Green Building Week 2024 marked earlier this month, 9th – 15th September 2024, witnessed over 75 Green Building Councils and their 46,000 members, join leaders from around the world to share solutions for a sustainable built environment.

South East Energy Agency being a member, organised a webinar themed, ‘Reducing CO₂ Emissions and Improving Policies for Construction & Home Renovation’, jointly executed by two key projects focused on decarbonisation of public procurement, DeCarb – Pro (Interreg North-West Europe with co-funding from the European Union) and the other focused on helping one-stop shops make an impact for residential building renovation across Europe, EU Peers (LIFE Programme co-funded by the European Union).

The Project Coordinator for De-Carb Pro Ireland, Ralf Kampe, spoke on carbon pricing via Green Public Procurement (GPP) instruments, reducing CO2 emissions by using GPP elements and CO2 pricing in Public Procurement, carbon hotspots, infrastructure, construction and energy. He further analysed the status quo of Carbon Pricing, gap to target and needs.

The second speaker, Colm O’ Mahony, Energy Engineer, Domestic Retrofit Lead, SEEA, introduced the EU Peers Project, the targets and what it seeks to achieve. He spoke on the need for One-Stop Shops (OSS) and Integrated Home Renovation Service (IHRS) Providers in Ireland to come together to form a Community of Practice aimed at developing ways to break barriers to home renovation in Ireland. He encouraged the OSS and IHRS providers including financial institutions supporting home renovation, to join the wider network of EU Peers to help improve the delivery of IHRS in the European Union to accelerate sustainable building renovation.
