Signode Packaging are a leading innovator in the commercial packaging industry. Signode were facing increasing energy bills due to the large amounts of energy for heating and cooling required for their manufacturing processes.

Signode were using a significant amount of electricity to power electric heaters required to preheat materials used in their manufacturing process. As a result the site also required chillers to regulate the building temperature to allow employees to work in a regulated environment, adding to a high demand for electricity on site.

The South East Energy Agency team had a look at the electricity consumption and current connection. As part of the project, our team of experts coordinated the installation of ducting which now allows the re-direction of hot air produced by the manufacturing process to heat the building in the winter months which removed the need for electrical heating in the stores, and allows the flow of air out of the building during the summer months. In doing so, removed on the demand for cooling in the manufacturing areas, which reduced the electrical consumption.

Benefits

As part of the project, our team of experts coordinated the installation of a heat transfer system. Thanks to the SEAI Community Energy Grant 2022 programme, the Signode has saved money on imported energy and reduced their operations carbon footprint.
